Burna Boy Advises Fans to Settle Scores Legally as “Old Rules No Longer Apply”

Grammy Award-winning artist Burna Boy recently shared advice with his fans on how to handle opponents. Posting a photo on his Instagram story, the star expressed that “the streets ain’t what they used to be,” implying that old codes of street loyalty have changed, and now, “everyone is a civilian.”

He suggested a new approach: “No more sliding. Just sue your opps in court and take their money.”

This message comes two weeks after Burna Boy filed a petition against rapper Speed Darlington for alleged cyberstalking, which led to Darlington’s detention in Abuja. Darlington’s mother pleaded with Burna Boy, accusing him of orchestrating the arrest, but the rapper was later released on bail after meeting police requirements.

Last week, Burna Boy responded sharply to a Twitter user who linked him to American rapper Diddy, with whom he had previously worked. Burna challenged the user, saying, “Show your face so I can trace your house.”

Reflecting on his success, Burna Boy recently shared that he now has more wealth than many he once idolized. As he put it, in his youth, wealth was associated with politicians, oil moguls, and the so-called “G boys,” with music nowhere in the picture. Today, he stands as an example, urging fans never to underestimate anyone’s potential.

In a self-reflective moment weeks ago, Burna Boy admitted that he misses the “old him” and that his previous self would likely not understand his current mindset, which he humorously called “soft” for its more mellow perspective.

In July, Burna addressed Nigerian fans directly, clarifying that he writes all his songs. The singer shared that while Western producers are often credited as “writers,” all lyrics are his own, proudly declaring his title as “Odogwu,” .
