Enugu: Govt Bans Illegal Mining Activities

All unlawful mining activities in Enugu State have been banned by the state government. Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the state government’s secretary, announced the ban in a statement issued on Thursday night.

The administration issued a warning against disobeying the directive. They further warned that any illegal miners in the state will face serious penalties for mining illegally in the state.

The government noted that it was in the best interests of the general populace to safeguard citizens from hazards and pollution, as well as to uphold equal rights for all state residents to benefits derived from mineral resources.

According to the statement-

“Following the directive by His Excellency, the Governor of Enugu State, on the report of the discovery of mineral resources in some communities in Enugu State; and the illegal mining of such mineral resources in those communities without the authorization/consent of the State Government, I hereby direct that all illegal mining activities in Enugu State should stop with immediate effect”.
