Flying Eagles' Benjamin Fredrick

Benjamin Fredrick, a defender for the Flying Eagles, is reportedly now drawing attention from top European clubs as a result of his performance in the U-20 World Cup in Argentina.

According to Fabrizio Romano, several teams including Man City, Bayern Munich and Villarreal scouts are monitoring the 18-year-old defender.

Frederick put up a stellar performance in Nigeria’s victory over hosts Argentina.  He celebrated his eighteenth birthday four days ago and he’s now eligible to sign a professional contract with a European club.

The defender competed in the 12-nation youth competition in Egypt just recently as a member of Nigeria’s U-20 team that defeated Tunisia 4-0 to win bronze. He was one of the most notable players of the U-20 AFCON.

Frederick contributed to three clean sheets and made sure that Nigeria never allowed more than one goal in any of the five contests he featured in during the under-20 African Cup.

He has gone the distance in all but one game for the Flying Eagles in Argentina, playing vital roles with Nigeria conceding only one goal and none from open play with him in the side.

He has promised Nigerians that he will bring back the cup:

It’s not easy for us here but we promise to work hard and when we work hard we will get the goals to win the tournament. I promise Nigerians we are going to win the tournament.”

Fredrick will look to maintain his fine form as Nigeria will now play either Korean Republic or Ecuador for a place in the semi-final of the tournament.
