Erling Haaland playing for Manchester City

Manchester City striker, Erling Haaland, has broken the Premier League record for goals in a 38-game season. Haaland accomplished the milestone after scoring in Man City’s 4-1 victory over Arsenal in the Premier League on Wednesday at the Etihad Stadium. The Norwegian has had an incredible season for Man City in his first year playing in England. The 22-year-old has been trying to surpass Mohamed Salah’s record of 32 goals. Salah had 32 goals during Liverpool’s Premier League season in 2017–18. This record was set before Haaland joined the club.

Before passing Salah with his goal against Arsenal last night, Haaland had tied Salah’s total during Man City’s 3-1 victory against Leicester City earlier this month. However, Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer both scored 34 goals in 1993–1994 and 1994–1995, respectively. Therefore, the former Borussia Dortmund attacker still isn’t the league’s all-time leading scorer in a single season.

Due to the Premier League’s 22 top-flight clubs, these accomplishments were made possible. Despite being during a season that was four games longer.

In terms of the number of games in which they can break the goalscoring record, Cole and Shearer have an unfair advantage over Haaland. Despite this, Haaland is still on track to overtake both of them considering that Man City has seven more matches in the top division.
