Alex Iwobi pleads with Nigerians for support after Super Eagles’ shock defeat against Guinea Bissau on Saturday. Iwobi admitted that he and his teammates failed to capitalise on the numerous goalscoring chances they created in the match played at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. Speaking to the media, he said:

We tried to play as a team and created so many chances in the game. I think Guinea Bissau probably had only about three opportunities, if you check the stats. So, it is one of those games we want to term as ‘bad luck’. We created so many chances, it just wasn’t for us today. I am sure if we play them again, luck will definitely be on our side and we will beat them convincingly

He added:

As players and staff, we know we’ve got to react to this result, we are going to look at the game and see what we need to do to improve. We want the fans to stick by us and support us because we give 100% not just for ourselves but also for our nation.

The Everton midfielder however pleaded with Nigerians not to relent in their support for the team. Nigeria with six points will be aiming for a win to reclaim the lead in Group A when they travel to Bissau in the return fixture on Monday, March 27.
