Sad Rashford - Manchester United loss

Liverpool defeat Manchester United at Anfield in an intense fixture at Merseyside. Manchester United came into the game confident, after their Carabao Cup victory. Meanwhile, a struggling Liverpool side seemed to be the underdogs of the match despite being at home.

Cody Gakpo, a former Manchester United target opened the scoring in the 43rd minute of the first half from a superb pass from Andy Robertson, the highest assisting defender in the premier league.

Gakpo would go on to score a brace alongside Darwin Nunez and Mo Salah. Bobby Firminho, who just announced  his departure from the club come end of the season sealed the deal to make it 7-0.

It is Liverpool’s biggest ever win against United, breaking a record which had stood for more than a century. Liverpool beat United 7-1 on October 12, 1895, but now there is a new high point.

In the process, Salah became Liverpool’s all-time Premier League top scorer with his double, overtaking Robbie Fowler with 129 goals.

Erik ten Hag’s side were completely embarrassed, conceding six goals in the second half and with players seemingly downing tools.

The result takes Liverpool up 5th on the table, while Manchester United remain third.
