Victor Osimhen for Napoli

Victor Osimhen failed to add to his Serie A tally as champions Napoli lost 2-0 at Monza on Sunday.

After helping his club secure the title for the first time in 30 years, Victor will now hope to also win the Golden boot in the Serie A.

Osimhen still lead in the top scoring chart on 23 goals while Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez has 20 goals with three games left.

Martinez is edging closer to the Nigerian, as he was on target for Inter in their 4-2 home win against Sassuolo on Saturday.

Goals from Dany Mota and Napoli loanee Andrea Petagna handed Luciano Spalletti’s men just their fourth top-flight loss of the season, dampening their ongoing title celebrations.

Monza took the lead with a well-worked counter-attack sparked by Nicolò Rovella, as Gianluca Caprari, Carlos Augusto and Matteo Pessina combined for Mota Carvalho to bundle over the line at the far post.

Carlos Augusto set Andrea Petagna up from 12 yards, but the striker slipped and ballooned over, while Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa stung Di Gregorio’s gloves with the inside of the right boot.

Former Napoli striker Petagna got the second after the restart, firing low into the near bottom corner after Mota Carvalho had forced a save from Pierluigi Gollini at the near post.

There was almost a third moments later, Gollini flying to palm away the Mota Carvalho strike from a tricky angle after Zielinski’s error sparked the counter-attack.

Monza make the trip to face Sassuolo in Serie A on Friday, while Napoli host Inter next Sunday.
