Petit: "He won the World Cup" to those asking Messi to leave PSG

Former Arsenal man Emmanuel Petit has wondered why Lionel Messi, a player who won the FIFA World Cup with Argentina a couple of months back, could be receiving the criticism he is getting at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) He said that the Argentine deserves better from the club’s fans who are calling for his head, adding that the former Barcelona ace is not the problem of the Parisians.

Petit also disagreed with those who said they are tired of Messi, especially former players of the club, who want the Argentine to leave as soon as possible.

“How can you criticize Messi? Do you think Messi is the problem at Paris St-Germain?’ Messi just won the World Cup with Argentina.

“How can you play with Messi if you don’t build the team around him? Insisting that the trio can play together if only the team is built around them.”

Messi is believed to have agreed to leave the club in the summer due to hostile behaviour towards him by the club’s supporters. Fans have maintained that PSG superstars are not committed to doing their job as they are being paid for, with things deteriorating since the team’s elimination from the Champions League.
