Police: IG Approves Promotion of 31,465 Officers

The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali-Baba has promoted a total of 31,465 police officers. This includes 24,991 from inspector to sergeant, 194 from corporal to sergeant, and 6,280 from constable to corporal.

According to the Force Headquarters, this was a component of the IG’s personnel development strategy. The strategy aims to promote worthy police officers based on their skills, training, and length of service.

IG also challenged newly promoted officers to embrace the ideals of contemporary police and carry out their jobs to the standards that are required of them.

The promotion was announced on Thursday in a statement released to newsmen by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

According to Adejobi-

“The IG has, however, charged the affected officers to add more pep to promoting the lofty principles and values of modern policing and discharge their duties as expected of them in line with the provisions of the extant laws”.

Two Assistant Inspectors General of Police were also praised by Alkali-Baba for the conferment of national honours on them by Former President, Muhammadu Buhari.

In his words-

“Similarly, the IG congratulates two AIGs on the conferment of national honours on them. The very senior police officers include AIG Aishatu Abubakar, who was conferred with the award of Officer of the Order of the Niger, and AIG Olofu Adejoh, who was conferred with the individual award of National Productivity Order of Merit Award by the National Productivity Centre, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, on the approval of the immediate past President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces”.
