The Yobe State Ministry of Health and Human Services has confirmed that seven persons died as a result of a cerebrospinal meningitis epidemic in the state’s Potiskum town.

Nigeria has reported 532 confirmed cases, including 124 deaths, out of 1,686 suspected cases of meningitis, with a case fatality rate of 7%. From 1 October 2022 to 16 April 2023, 81 local government areas in 22 states, including the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria, reported cases.
Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM) killed 118 people between last year and April 2nd, 2023, in 21 states across the country, according to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC).
