Temitope Olorunfemi

Temitope Olorunfemi, the 25-year-old driver who was lynched by an angry mob in Ondo State, was laid to rest on Monday, April 17, 2023, amid tears. Temitope was said to be an Uber driver. However, he was killed by a mob who alleged that he was an Internet fraudster (Yahoo boy). Furthermore, his car had previously hit no fewer than seven persons in the Ijoka Area of Akure.

One of the victims died instantly while six persons sustained life-threatening injuries and are currently in the hospital. The police have paraded four principal suspects in connection with the killing. The incident has sparked outrage and condemnation from many Nigerians. Many of them have decried the rampant cases of jungle justice in the country.

The burial ceremony was attended by family, friends, and sympathizers who came to pay their last respects to the deceased.

Many of them were seen weeping uncontrollably. They expressed their grief over the senseless killing of a young man who was trying to make a living. The tragic incident has once again brought to the fore the dangers that drivers and other service providers face in Nigeria. Especially in areas where jungle justice is prevalent.

The family of Temitope has called for justice to be served and has appealed to the government to do more to curb the rising cases of jungle justice in the country. They have also expressed their appreciation to all those who have shown support and solidarity during this trying time.

The incident is a sad reminder of the need for Nigerians to eschew jungle justice. It is important to allow the law to take its course in cases of alleged crimes. It is important for the government and other stakeholders to take urgent steps to address the root causes of jungle justice in the country. They have to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice. Only then can we hope to put an end to this barbaric and senseless act. Especially considering that has claimed the lives of many innocent Nigerians.
