Famous Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, aka Davido, has said he and Wizkid were the first young Nigerian artists to hit stardom.
He expressed his excitement over the “new cats” (stars) that are currently ruling the music industry, including Burna Boy, Rema, Fireboy, Mayorkun, and Asake. The singer of the 30 Billion Gang song spoke out in an interview that went viral on social media.
He said,
“Wizkid and I were the first young artists to blow up and it feels good seeing new cats like Burna Boy, Rema, Fireboy, Mayorkun, you know a lot of new cats coming, killing it…Asake who was on my album.
“So, yes, I think the future of Afrobeat is in good hands.”
His comments have stirred debate on social media. Many Burna Boy fans criticize him for lumping the Grammy Award-winning musician in with newbies.
