Sierra Leone will host the Super Eagles of Nigeria at a neutral venue in their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations AFCON qualifier in June after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) failed to approve any of the country’s stadia.
The Leone Stars have played all their home games in the qualifiers in Morocco.
Meanwhile, CAF has approved only the Akwa Ibom International Stadium for the 2023 AFCON in June this year. This was confirmed in an official communiqué sent out on Monday.
CAF noted that the list, which included 48 countries, is specific for the group stage qualifiers on Matchday 5.
Jose Peseiro’s side is currently on top of Group A with nine points from four games. A draw against Sierra Leone in their next fixture will seal a place in Cote d’Ivoire 2023. Sierra Leone is third with five points from the same number of matches.
Guinea-Bissau and Sao Tome and Principe are the other teams in the group. The top two teams in the group will qualify for the AFCON.
