In a dramatic turn of events, officers from the Lagos State Police Command carried out a search at the residence of musician Seun Kuti, located in Ikeja, Lagos. The incident, which took place on Tuesday, involved the police escorting Seun Kuti to his home while restraining him.
According to witnesses, the police invaded Seun Kuti’s Akin Osiyemi home on Allen Avenue in Ikeja and proceeded to search his apartment. Shockingly, they also seized his wife’s phone before leaving with him. A video clip capturing the search conducted at the musician’s residence has since gone viral online.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the command had obtained a search warrant to conduct the search at Seun Kuti’s residence. The search was part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged assault reportedly committed by Seun Kuti.
Hundeyin stated,
It’s part of our ongoing investigations. We were investigating assault, and we stumbled on some things we needed to verify. We got a duly issued search warrant, which we executed.”
Notably, Seun had recently gained attention on social media platforms following a viral video that showed him physically confronting a Nigerian police officer on Third Mainland Bridge. In response, Seun took to his Instagram story, claiming that the policeman had attempted to harm him and his family. While asserting that he had evidence to support his claims, Seun Kuti mentioned that he did not seek attention but revealed that the officer had apologized to him and that he had chosen not to press charges.
It is worth mentioning that a Magistrate’s Court in the Yaba area of Lagos State had granted Seun Kuti bail earlier on Tuesday. The search conducted at his residence appears to be part of the ongoing investigation into the alleged assault incident.
