The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has initiated an investigation into the suspected murder of construction engineer Humphrey Uchenna Nnaji in Abuja.
The engineer’s dead body was found in his Dawaki, FCT apartment on July 8, 2023. It was decomposed, and he was allegedly killed by unknown assailants who entered his residence.
Unaware of the tragedy, neighbours detected a foul odour from Nnaji’s apartment and promptly notified the police. Upon investigation, law enforcement found the engineer’s decomposed body seated in a chair.
A local commercial driver, known as Musa, recounted the incident, stating,
The engineer’s corpse was found in his apartment in the Dawaki area. The police came to evacuate his corpse on Saturday around 8 p.m. The corpse was already decomposing, which suggests that the incident may have occurred prior to Saturday. The residents in the area are still struggling to comprehend how the incident happened. The house has been cordoned off as we speak.”
A source within the FCT Police Command revealed that while examining the crime scene, officers found a hammer next to Nnaji’s body, along with a written note alleging that the killing was carried out by an individual claiming to be “Alfa,” seeking vengeance for the death of his sister.
“The deceased appeared to have been killed with a hammer. A sledgehammer stained with blood was found beside him. Additionally, the back of Nnaji’s head displayed a deep cut. He was seated on a chair with two pieces of handset charging cords around his neck,” the source disclosed.
The source further added,
A note left by an individual who identified himself as Alfa was discovered on his table. The note claimed that Alfa killed the deceased to avenge his sister’s death and accused Nnaji of involvement in ‘Yahoo Plus’ and using other girls.”
SP Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway.
The tragic death of Humphrey Uchenna Nnaji has left the community in shock, and the police are committed to uncovering the truth behind this heinous crime.
