Sir Salman Rushdie, the acclaimed author, provides an update on his physical condition almost a year after the tragic stabbing incident during a lecture in New York.

At 76, he shares that he is “more or less OK” but still coming to terms with the incident that resulted in severe injuries.

In August of last year, Sir Salman Rushdie survived an on-stage attack, sustaining up to 10 stab wounds that caused damage to his liver, vision loss in one eye, and paralysis in one hand due to nerve damage. Despite the challenges he has faced, Rushdie credits the healing capacity of the human body and expresses gratitude for his progress on the road to recovery.

In an interview with the BBC, Rushdie mentions that he has a therapist to help him navigate the emotional aftermath of the incident, which left him blind in one eye. He also admits to having “out-of-control dreams” as part of his healing process.

The author remains undecided about whether he will attend the trial of his alleged attacker. While he appreciates the support he has received, Rushdie acknowledges that he is torn between wanting to face the accused in court

and feeling indifferent about it.

Sir Salman Rushdie, known for his novel “The Satanic Verses,” which sparked controversy and death threats, including a fatwa against him, also touches on distinguishing between private faith and the politicization of religion. He warns about the dangers of religious radicalization and emphasizes the need for clear distinctions regarding political agendas.

Currently, Rushdie divides his time between the US and the UK and continues to receive state protection in the UK, as he has in the past. He remains focused on his writing, including a book about the stabbing incident, which he views as necessary to move forward.
