Nigeria’s Michelle Alozie has shrugged off the incident involving England’s Lauren James that led to her red card during their Women’s World Cup last 16 encounter. Alozie confirmed her well-being after the reckless stamp that saw James being sent off.
In the 87th minute of the match, Lauren James was shown a yellow card for a rough challenge on Michelle Alozie. However, after a VAR review, the referee changed the decision to a red card. Despite the altercation, Alozie revealed she holds no grudges against James.
Alozie acknowledged the impact of nullifying James, stating, “It was good for us to have her taken out of the game. I was a little bit surprised by her reaction to the tackle. I’m fine, my butt is fine from her stepping on it!” She expressed confusion initially but stressed that there are no hard feelings as it’s all part of the game.
Despite the Lionesses emerging victorious in the penalty shootout after a goalless draw, the Super Falcons exit the Women’s World Cup. Looking ahead, England, managed by Sarina Wiegman, will face the winner between Colombia and Jamaica in the quarter-finals on August 12.
