The Nigerian movie industry has been plunged into mourning once again with the passing of veteran actor Yemi Adeyemi, affectionately known as ‘Suara.’ This esteemed actor, renowned for his role alongside Sola Sobowale in the iconic TV series, Super Story, bid farewell to this world on Sunday, September 24th.

The heart-wrenching news of Yemi Adeyemi’s passing was shared by his family through a statement, thoughtfully signed by his son, Adetoun Adeyemi, on Monday. The family has requested privacy during this difficult time, refraining from disclosing the cause of his death but promising to provide further details about his burial.

In the statement, Adetoun Adeyemi conveyed,

It is with a heavy heart but with total submission to God that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, Oluyemi Lawrence Adeyemi (Suara), who went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 24, 2023. We are consoled because we know that he has gone to rest. We kindly request that the family be allowed some privacy in this time of grief. More details about the burial will be communicated soon.”

Dr. Shaibu Husseini, a movie critic and close friend of the late actor, also confirmed this tragic news, reminiscing about Yemi Adeyemi’s illustrious career. He wrote,

I have been reliably informed that veteran actor Chief Yemi Adeyemi aka Suara has transited. Popular as Suara, Chief Adeyemi rode to prominence playing Suara in the rested ‘Oh Father, Oh Daughter’ series of the hugely popular Super Story stories by Wale Adenuga Productions. Baba Suara as some of his younger colleagues simply called him, reportedly ‘acted out’ this Sunday. Journey well Baba Suara. You will be sorely missed. Odigba Sir. Journey Well.”

Yemi Adeyemi gained recognition for his role as Suara in Wale Adenuga’s production series, Super Story, ‘Oh Father! Oh Daughter!’, where he portrayed a polygamist with Bukky Wright as his first wife and Sola Sobowale as his second wife.

This loss comes shortly after the Nigerian entertainment industry mourned the passing of actor and filmmaker Charles Granville, who left this world on Thursday, September 21, 2023, after a long battle with illness. Charles was a prominent figure in the Africa Magic series, Tinsel.

Furthermore, Nollywood recently bid farewell to another veteran, Akeem Alamutu, who passed away in the early hours of September 19, 2023. Actor Odunlade Adekola shared the news of his demise, urging everyone to lead humble lives and remember that all things eventually become part of history.

Esteemed personalities within the industry, including Funke Akindele, Shaffy Bello, Jaiye Kuti, Hilda Dokubo, Muyiwa Ademola, and many more, have paid their respects to these departed legends, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to Nigerian cinema and television.
