Nigerian singer and controversial media personality, Samklef, recently praised superstar singer Wizkid while throwing a subtle shade at his rival, Davido. In a post featuring a photo of Wizkid at his mother’s funeral, Samklef hailed him as the original “001.”
This gesture followed criticism aimed at Davido for allegedly reneging on a contract, highlighting Wizkid’s reputation for steering clear of such disputes. Samklef emphasized Wizkid’s character, describing him as a “clean boy” who remains cool, calm, and collected, positioning him as an exemplary role model for artists, both young and old.
This praise coincides with allegations from a Nigerian photographer and businessman, Abu Salami, who publicly accused Davido of failing to fulfill a contract worth millions. According to Salami, he paid Davido N218 million to support a children’s football project, but the singer failed to honor his commitment and refused to provide a refund, even resorting to intimidation tactics.
These allegations add to a growing list of instances where Davido has faced accusations of contract breaches. Last month, the former Nigerian Football Federation president, Amaju Pinnick, called out Davido for not appearing at an event despite receiving substantial payment, including the booking of a private jet for his entourage. Pinnick made a comparative reference to Burna Boy, highlighting the latter’s professional integrity.
Additionally, Nigerian Tribal model Adetutu Alabi claimed that Davido owed her money after she appeared in one of his music videos, sharing her encounter and appealing to the singer to fulfill his financial commitment.
Samklef’s acknowledgment of Wizkid’s reputation for professionalism amid contractual issues has sparked discussions about artists’ integrity and commitment to agreements in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
