The attorney representing the late emerging artist, Ileriouluwa Oladimeji Aloba, famously known as Mohbad, has provided an update on the ongoing legal battle concerning the artist’s royalties.

According to Mohbad’s lawyer, the artist had a working arrangement with Marlian Records, which was not considered a traditional record label agreement. Prior to parting ways with the label to establish his own entity, Imolenization Limited, Mohbad had released an Extended Play (EP) and several singles while collaborating with Marlian Records.

The lawyer revealed that efforts have been made to retrieve Mohbad’s EPs and singles created during his tenure with Marlian Records since his unfortunate passing. The legal team is still engaged in court proceedings to secure these materials, which are currently under the control of Marlian Records.

The news sparked varied reactions from netizens. Some expressed dismay at Mohbad’s struggles while alive and posthumously in obtaining justice. Concerns were raised over his father’s role in pursuing the late artist’s royalties rather than directing blame towards Mohbad’s widowed wife.

Netizens shared a mixture of frustration and sorrow, pointing out the challenges Mohbad faced during his life and the complications surrounding his artistic works, including attempts to secure his rightful earnings even after his untimely demise.

Previously, the House of Representatives summoned Naira Marley and Mohbad’s manager, Jiggy Adeoye, to address concerns regarding the late artist’s work and ensure that his rights and compensation are appropriately recognized.

Mohbad, a former signee of Naira Marley’s record label, tragically passed away at 27 under unclear circumstances on September 12. His team released an official statement, expressing their determination to preserve and safeguard his musical legacy, vowing to fight for his catalogue to ensure his artistic contributions endure.
