Nollywood actress and singer, Angela Okorie, has shared insights into the reasons behind her failed marriage to Chukwuma Orizu in a recent interview with Iyabo Ojo on the Goldroom with Iyabo Ojo podcast.
Angela Okorie disclosed that she fell out of love with her ex-husband, despite his constant support. The primary cause of the marriage breakdown, as revealed by Okorie, was the opposition from her former in-laws. She explained that they were not supportive of her career in the entertainment industry and wanted her to quit acting.
In the interview, Angela Okorie stated,
I won’t advise anybody to be in a marriage when you’re not in love with the man. I think that’s the reason a lot of women cheat. In this Lekki, you have too many women who cheat in their marriages.”
She further explained,
I fell out of love because of what his family was doing. The family didn’t want me to continue acting. They didn’t want me to do anything acting. They were like, ‘If we are going to marry you, you’ll stop doing entertainment.’”
Despite her ex-husband’s support for her career, Okorie felt that her dreams were being stifled. She emphasized that her parents had never restricted her aspirations, and she couldn’t allow her ex-husband’s family to kill her dream.
This is what your wife wants. You can’t kill my dream. This is what I’ve worked for so many years to get here. So, you can’t just wake up and say, ‘Because you want to marry me, give up on my dreams,’” she added.
This isn’t the first time Angela Okorie has addressed her failed marriage, emphasizing that it wasn’t abusive but rather a result of differing visions and aspirations. In a previous interview, she expressed her fear of marriage, stating that she would not walk down the aisle again unless she finds a peaceful union.
