In a surprising turn of events, Tottenham Hotspur has successfully secured a deal to bring former Chelsea striker Timo Werner to their squad on loan from RB Leipzig. The agreement, understood by talkSPORT, includes an option for Spurs to make the deal permanent for approximately £15 million at the end of the season.

Despite initial interest from Manchester United, Tottenham swiftly moved ahead in the race for Werner, who was left out of RB Leipzig’s friendly against St Gallen due to ongoing discussions with the North London club. RB Leipzig manager Marco Rose confirmed Werner’s departure, stating, “He wants to go on loan, we wish him all the best. He needs to play as he wants to go to Euro 2024, and we keep our fingers crossed for him.”

Tottenham has committed to covering Werner’s full wages, with a medical expected as early as Sunday. Werner, who previously joined Chelsea in 2020 for £45 million but struggled to meet expectations, now looks to revive his career in the Premier League with Spurs, aiming for a successful stint to secure a spot in the Euro 2024 squad.
