Nollywood actor Yomi Fabiyi has offered a recent update on the ongoing legal battle involving embattled Yoruba actor Baba Ijesha, who was convicted of raping a minor, the adopted daughter of comedian Princess.
In a recent interview, Fabiyi stated that Baba Ijesha’s appeal process is still in progress in court. He emphasized that the absence of evidence linking Baba Ijesha directly to the alleged crime led to the judge’s decision not to impose a life sentence.
Fabiyi claimed that Princess had called Baba Ijesha to participate in a comedy skit, a statement corroborated by the girl during court proceedings. Fabiyi further asserted that the actual perpetrator remains at large, and disputed claims regarding the girl’s age, citing the absence of her birth certificate in court records.
Baba Ijesha’s legal ordeal dates back to 2022 when he was sentenced to five years in prison for offenses including indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, and attempted sexual assault. While acknowledging his guilt on some counts, Baba Ijesha was acquitted of others. Despite the conviction, Fabiyi has advocated for Baba Ijesha’s right to appeal and has highlighted the need for Princess to face consequences for alleged parental negligence.
In October 2022, Fabiyi publicly celebrated Baba Ijesha’s birthday, demonstrating his continued support for the actor amid the legal proceedings.
As the appeal process unfolds and public scrutiny persists, the case remains a focal point in discussions surrounding child abuse, justice, and the legal system within the Nigerian entertainment industry.
