The news of a GoFundMe campaign for May Edochie, launched by her fans, has stirred significant online debate.
Supporters initiated the campaign after allegations that her estranged husband, Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, has neglected his financial responsibilities towards their children. According to May’s lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, Yul has not been contributing to child support or school fees, leaving May to bear the full financial burden.
The controversy began when Yvonne Jegede defended Yul’s decision to take a second wife, prompting backlash from May’s supporters. In response, May’s lawyer revealed the extent of her financial struggles, including claims that Yul told his daughter to seek money from her mother.
Fans quickly mobilized, suggesting the creation of a GoFundMe account to assist May. This proposal received both support and criticism from social media users. Some argued that May, who runs multiple businesses and lives comfortably, does not need such financial aid. Others insisted that purchasing her products and offering prayers would be more beneficial.
Amid the debate, actress Anita Joseph advised fans to support May by buying her products and keeping her in their prayers, cautioning that the GoFundMe initiative could be misconstrued in the future.
May Edochie, who recently shared her emotional journey of rebuilding her life, continues to face challenges following her husband’s second marriage to Judy, a colleague. In response, May filed for divorce, seeking significant damages and full custody of their children, along with a restraining order against Yul.
