Social media is abuzz with reactions following the news of Koko Zaria, a protégé of NURTW leader MC Oluomo, being remanded in prison for allegedly assaulting Yoruba actor Baba Lawori.
The Lagos Chief Magistrate Court has remanded Koko Zaria, a prominent figure associated with MC Oluomo, in prison custody following allegations of assault against Yoruba actor Baba Lawori. The incident, which took place in July, has been a topic of significant public interest and controversy.
Baba Lawori had reported a violent attack during an event where he was performing as a Master of Ceremony. According to his account, he was lured into a confrontation with Koko Zaria under false pretenses, leading to a brutal assault by one of Zaria’s associates. Lawori was reportedly struck with a bottle, resulting in severe injuries and unconsciousness.
On September 5th, the Chief Magistrate Court in Lagos heard the case, where Koko Zaria pleaded not guilty to the charges. His legal team, comprising lawyers S. Bello and S.O Ajetomobi, argued for bail, citing the bailable nature of the charges. Chief Magistrate Sonuga granted bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum. However, Koko Zaria remains in the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS) custody until the bail conditions are met.
