LEAD FUCTIONAL TESTER

Develop comprehensive test strategies, plans, and schedules based on project requirements and banking

Job Summary:

The Lead Functional Tester will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of functional testing within banking applications, ensuring that all software products meet the required quality standards before release. This role requires a deep understanding of banking systems, products, and processes, and involves leading a team of testers, creating test strategies, and coordinating testing activities. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in functional testing within the banking sector, strong analytical skills, and a keen eye for detail.

Responsibilities:

  • Test Strategy and Planning

– Develop comprehensive test strategies, plans, and schedules based on project requirements

and banking domain standards.

– Define testing scope, objectives, and key deliverables, ensuring alignment with project goals

and timelines.

– Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to understand functional requirements

and define test cases.

  • Test Execution and Supervision

– Lead the execution of functional, regression, system, integration, and user acceptance

testing (UAT) for banking applications.

– Oversee the preparation and execution of manual and automated test cases, ensuring

adherence to best practices.

– Manage testing environments, data setup, and test coverage to ensure robust and thorough

validation of software.

  • Defect Management and Reporting

– Identify, document, and track defects, ensuring they are communicated effectively to the

development team for resolution.

– Conduct defect triage meetings, prioritizing issues based on business impact and

coordinating with developers for timely fixes.

– Generate detailed test reports, providing insights into testing progress, defect status, and

quality metrics.

  • Banking Domain Expertise

– Utilize extensive banking knowledge to validate core banking functionalities, including

customer management, payments, loans, and compliance modules.

– Ensure that test scenarios cover critical banking operations, regulatory requirements, and

security standards.

– Collaborate with business teams to validate that software aligns with banking workflows and

customer expectations.

  • Team Leadership and Mentoring

– Lead and mentor a team of functional testers, providing guidance, support, and training to

enhance their skills and performance.

– Allocate tasks, monitor team progress, and ensure high standards of testing quality and

efficiency.

– Foster a collaborative environment, promoting knowledge sharing and continuous

improvement within the testing team.

  • Test Automation Integration

– Identify opportunities to integrate test automation into the functional testing process to

improve efficiency and reduce manual efforts.

– Work with automation testers to develop automated scripts for regression testing of critical

banking features.

  • Stakeholder Communication and Collaboration

– Communicate testing progress, risks, and issues to project managers, developers, and

business stakeholders.

– Participate in sprint planning, reviews, and retrospective meetings, ensuring testing

objectives are met in Agile environments.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

1. Test Coverage: Percentage of requirements covered by test cases, ensuring all critical functionalities are validated.

2. Defect Detection Efficiency: Ratio of defects identified during testing versus those found in production.

3. Defect Turnaround Time: Average time taken to report, fix, and retest defects.

4. Test Execution Rate: Percentage of test cases executed within planned timelines.

5. Stakeholder Satisfaction: Feedback from business users and stakeholders on the accuracy and thoroughness of testing.

6. Automation Coverage: Percentage of repeatable test cases automated, contributing to faster regression cycles.

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in functional testing, with at least 2 years in a leadership role within the banking or financial services sector.
  • Strong knowledge of banking processes, products, and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in test management tools (e.g., JIRA, ALM, TestRail) and defect tracking systems. – Hands-on experience with test automation tools (e.g., Selenium, QTP) is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of SDLC, Agile, and Waterfall methodologies.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Attributes:

  • ISTQB certification or equivalent in testing is highly desirable.
  • Experience with end-to-end testing of core banking systems, payment gateways, or digital banking applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
