Award-winning Afrobeat singer Burna Boy has confidently proclaimed that he is wealthier than many individuals he once looked up to, as he shared reflections on his remarkable journey.

In a candid Instagram story, he reminisced about his childhood, noting how he believed that only politicians and oil moguls were the true money-makers, with music not even on the radar.

Fast forward to today, Burna Boy asserts that he now has more money than 90% of those he once viewed as financial giants. Using this realization as a motivational message, he encouraged his fans to never underestimate anyone, as they could become the next Elon Musk.

“Imagine growing up and only politicians and oil men were the ones really getting REAL money followed by the G boys. Music was not even in the conversation when money was the topic. Now, an ugly black musician from Port Harcourt got more money than 90% of the people he looked up to as moneymakers. This is why I never count any young people out, because they could be Elon Musk tomorrow typing this same message,” he wrote.

Recently, Burna Boy also addressed why he doesn’t give away millions of dollars to fans, explaining that although he could, he prefers to maintain a level of distance from social media interactions. He revealed that while he doesn’t need most of what he possesses, he’s not fond of engaging with social media users.

In previous discussions, he shared insights about his evolution, admitting that the “new him” sometimes misses the “old him.” He expressed astonishment at how his former self couldn’t understand the changes in his demeanor, particularly regarding his shift away from constant anger.

Earlier this year, Burna Boy made headlines by acknowledging the artists who paved the way for him, listing legends like 2Baba, Timaya, D’banj, Larry Gaga, and Wande Coal as his main influences in the industry. He emphasized their significant impact on his life and career.

In a public service announcement, he clarified that he does not utilize songwriters, explaining that the names credited on his tracks are either producers or featured artists.

He further elaborated that in the Western music industry, producers are often credited as writers for their instrumental work, but asserted, “Nobody writes for me.” Calling himself an “Odogwu,” Burna Boy reinforced his commitment to authenticity in his music.
