Nollywood star Opeyemi Aiyeola has encouraged women who have experienced the journey of IVF and surrogacy to share their stories openly.
During a TikTok live session, Aiyeola emphasized the importance of these testimonies in inspiring and educating others.
She noted that many women are hesitant to explore IVF or surrogacy due to a lack of relatable success stories. By speaking out, women who have undergone these processes can dispel myths and foster hope for others. Aiyeola commended those who have boldly shared their journeys and discouraged giving “half-baked” testimonies that fail to fully enlighten others.
In her words:
Those of you that did surrogacy, let people know so that they would know that surrogacy works. That’s why I applaud people who come out with their full chest and say they had their child through surrogacy or IVF. You all will now give half-baked testimony which doesn’t help others.”
Echoing Aiyeola’s sentiments, fellow actress Mary Njoku addressed religious women, urging them to normalize discussing IVF in their testimonies. She highlighted how such openness could inspire other families and dismissed the notion that IVF is not a miraculous process.
In a bold follow-up post, Njoku criticized statements implying that “IVF failed, but God gave a miracle.” She stated that both IVF and C-sections are miracles in their own right and called on people to stop using religion to discourage others from embracing medical options for parenthood.
Beyond advocating for IVF, Aiyeola has shared insights on relationships and family dynamics. She advised individuals not to enter relationships with just their emotions but to involve their reasoning as well.
She further encouraged Nigerians to break the cycle of generational trauma, urging them to ensure that the damage caused by their upbringing does not negatively impact their children.
