How To Cope With Your Curfew

For teenagers, and young people living with their parents, curfews be such a challenge to deal with.  You may want the freedom to spend more time with your friends, and feel more independent than you currently do. These reasons are quite normal. How, though, can you enjoy such freedoms when faced with a curfew that seems too restrictive?

Stick to your Curfew: Prove Yourself Trustworthy

If your parents trust you, they’ll cut you some slack. They know you will be out for a legitimate reason. They trust that you’re not out there doing something illegal.  You can do this by sticking to your current curfew. If you are trusted to stick to your time now, then your parents might give you more time if you ask for it. But if you don’t stick to time now, they might deem extra time an excuse for you to stay overnight.

Keep Good Friends

When your parents know your friends, they’ll be more comfortable giving you more time to stay out late. Of course, that is if you keep wholesome friends your parents are comfortable with. Then they can permit you to stay late and do your homework and assignments together. Or go to see a movie or a game together. Their minds will be at rest because they know and trust whom you are out with.

Make Sure You’re Not Struggling In Your Studies.

You do not expect your parents to allow you to stay out late if you’re performing terribly in your academics. That will always be used to make your stay at home. You won’t be allowed to go out because you’re meant to be studying. Also, try to ensure you complete your chores and carry out every task or errand your parents have assigned to you. Then you can ask for time to stay out late.

Consider the safety of your Neighborhood

If you live in a dangerous neighbourhood, your curfew is good for you. Try to stick to it. Your parents would be worried about you if you’re not home, and that might be bad for their health. Your safety is very important. You could get robbed. You could get shot. Get home on time, for your own good.

Talk to your parents if you are not comfortable with your curfew. Remember to be respectful when you do. Try not to challenge their authority. Give them a good reason to extend you more freedom. If they do not agree with you, do not feel too bad. Over time, you can gain their trust.
