Ijeoma Otabor, popularly known as Phyna and the winner of Big Brother Naija: Level Up, has made a startling revelation about her family.
The reality TV star recently announced on Twitter that she is officially dropping her family surname, Otabor, following a series of personal discoveries and struggles.
Phyna revealed that it has been proven she has no family and is still searching for answers about her origins. Reflecting on her childhood, she noted how she was moved between relatives but was too young at the time to question her circumstances.
In her words:
“I am publicly dropping my family surname OTABOR. It has been proven that I actually have no family and nobody knows how I came about. I’m still searching for answers though. It’s been rough with me lately. I’m in a place where I can’t even describe how I feel or what to call what I’m going through rn. Growing up and the way I was tossed around relatives, I should have suspected, but I guess I was too young. Omo my head wan tear!!!!!!”
Phyna’s revelation sparked varied responses across social media:
- @Kamaara: “And you think social media people care? Everyone has got issues!! Save us the stress and shut it.”
- @Kween_Esther: “Nobody understands how it hurts when your family doesn’t have your back.”
- @Msvera_Chidera: “Do what you gotta do my darling, some of these adults didn’t have any business birthing in the first place.”
- @Its_Katchy: “That’s you and your family’s yawa. All of us have our family matters.”
- @Gritty_Nazy: “Am I the only one that understood this write-up to mean that she found out she is not the biological daughter of her parents?”
This isn’t the first time Phyna has faced public scrutiny over her family dynamics. Last year, her father accused her of abandoning him after her BBNaija win. He alleged that Phyna had failed to fulfill promises she made and had not visited him since her victory.
Phyna previously responded to the controversy, calling out a media outlet for what she described as harassment. She shared that the situation left her emotional, admitting it was the first time online criticism had made her cry.
Additionally, comedian DeeOne weighed in, offering Phyna’s father ₦500,000 and seemingly shading the reality star for “living a fake life.”
Despite the challenges, Phyna continues to navigate her journey, leaving fans curious about what lies ahead.
