Nigerian comedian turned pastor, Woli Arole, has stirred conversations online after openly sharing his stance on Christians practicing BDSM in marriage.
In an Instagram post, Arole revealed that someone asked if it was acceptable for a Christian couple to engage in BDSM — which refers to bondage, discipline, dominance, submission, and sadism. His answer was a firm “No.”
“I was asked, ‘Can a Christian do BDSM in marriage?’ My own answer is NO,” he stated.
While Woli didn’t expand much on the reasoning behind his view, the post has generated mixed reactions, with many debating where to draw the line between sexual freedom within marriage and spiritual conviction.
This isn’t the first time the preacher has addressed controversial or uncomfortable topics within Christianity.
Weeks prior, Arole expressed concern about materialism infiltrating the church, warning that mammon — the biblical symbol of wealth — is becoming more prominent in sermons and church culture. He stressed that Christ did not die to make us rich, but to offer eternal life.
In another post, Woli called out Christians who frequently bash the Big Brother Naija show, urging them to quit labeling it “ungodly” and instead invest in creating Christian alternatives. He noted that many Christian billionaires have the means to start their own reality shows but choose to complain instead.
He has also previously cautioned Christians against judgmental attitudes, reminding them that they are not the ultimate judges of anyone’s character or salvation.
Earlier this year, the popular preacher gave a prophetic word, declaring that the year wouldn’t favor sugar babies and side chicks. He warned that men who abandon their wives for younger women would live to regret it, urging repentance and spiritual reawakening.
