Nollywood actress Kemisola Apesin, popularly known as Kemity, has spoken candidly about why her engagement to Herod Lammy didn’t lead to marriage.
In a recent interview with fellow actress Biola Bayo, Kemity revealed that although Lammy was supportive of her work and loved her deeply, they couldn’t move forward as a couple due to both health and personal reasons.
Kemity says she ended engagement with Herod Lammy over AS genotype and career goals, stressing that her career is at its peak and she’s unwilling to put it on hold to have a child now.
Things didn’t work out between us. He’s a good man and loves what I do, but he wanted us to have a child now. I couldn’t go ahead with that,” she said. “This is the peak of my career. I’m finally making money. If I take a break for three years, I know my career will slow down.”
She added that although they discussed the matter and he initially agreed to wait, it became clear he wasn’t truly okay with the arrangement.
Even more crucial was the health incompatibility between them. Both Kemity and Lammy are AS genotype, which medically makes them unsuitable for having children together due to the risk of sickle cell disease. “We couldn’t sort it—I’m AS, and he’s also AS,” she said.
Kemity also opened up about her personal life, addressing criticisms she faces over having two children by different men. She revealed that the father of her first child was her first love, the man who deflowered her, but sadly, he was killed in a hotel after returning from Malaysia. She described herself as a widow following his tragic death.
In 2023, Kemity had announced her engagement on Instagram, posting a video flaunting her engagement ring and revealing that she had said “yes” to her partner. The news was met with joy from fans and colleagues, including actor Itele, who celebrated the development as a beautiful way to end the year.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned, and Kemity has now chosen to focus on her thriving career and raising her children.
