Nigerian music icon Tiwa Savage has given her son, Jamil, a special birthday treat—a brand-new iPhone—as he turns 10.
The singer took to Instagram to share a clip of the excited birthday boy unboxing his gift. While Jamil was clearly thrilled, Tiwa made it clear that social media was off-limits.
He’s been asking for an iPhone since his 9th birthday,” she wrote. “No social media though.”
This thoughtful gesture comes just a day after the singer opened up about the challenges she’s been facing. In a post, Tiwa revealed she was uncertain about the status of her UK visa, which was delaying a major shoot in London and affecting her plans for Jamil’s birthday celebration.
Adding to the frustration, the award-winning Afrobeat star issued a PSA to those constantly seeking financial help. She reminded fans that she’s not immune to Nigeria’s tough economy either. “I’m a single mum hustling day and night,” she said, highlighting how she shoulders every responsibility on her own.
Earlier this year, Tiwa caught public attention when she shared a clip of herself swimming underwater with sharks—an item she proudly ticked off her bucket list. While fans expressed concern, she fired back, noting that the entertainment industry is more dangerous than the ocean. “Y’all worried about sharks? The music industry is scarier,” she said.
In a follow-up post, she added,
I’ll never be worried when I know God is the one watching over me.”
