Nollywood actor Afeez Owo has shed light on his marriage to actress Mide Martins, opening up about the truth behind their 2016 separation rumours.
In a recent interview with Behind The List, Afeez disclosed that the incident was the only major fight they had ever experienced as a couple. He admitted that he didn’t handle the matter well and, out of anger, temporarily moved out of their home.
There was a time rumours spread that my wife and I had separated. In truth, that was the first and only serious fight we’ve ever had in our marriage. Thankfully, we reconciled and came back together. I admit I didn’t handle it well. I scattered things, and at some point, I even thought, ‘Is this how it’s going to end?’ Social media made it worse because it was something we should have resolved privately. Out of anger, I left and stayed in a hotel for two days, while she went online saying I had abandoned her and the kids. But by God’s grace, we overcame it,” he explained.
Back in 2016, Mide had publicly accused Afeez of abandoning her and their children. Afeez, however, countered the claim, blaming external influence from friends who wanted to cause chaos in their home.
Despite the rough patch, the couple has since shown a united front, often celebrating each other publicly.
In December, Mide knelt on stage to appreciate her husband after winning the Best Actress of the Year award, stating that without him, there would be no her. Last year, she also prayed passionately for him on a movie set, asking God to grant him continuous success.
Afeez, on his part, has never hidden his admiration for his wife. On her birthday, he described Mide as the love of his life, his queen, and his biggest support system. She, in turn, called him her backbone and reaffirmed her love during his own birthday celebration.
