The Abia State government has restricted the movement of heavy-duty vehicles in Aba and Umuahia from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. after an automobile accident that resulted in the deaths of about four people at the Aba waterfront bridge.

The government revealed in a statement signed by Mr. Dodoh Okafor, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Communication, that the heavy-duty vehicle movement restrictions in the Aba and Umuahia zones between 7 am and 8 pm had been restored, following the death of Four people and several more were injured when a truck carrying containers lost control of its brakes and smashed a Toyota Sienna and a tricycle yesterday.

The state administration expressed its condolences to the crash victims’ families and hoped for the deceased’s souls to rest in peace and for the injured’s health to return quickly. It also revealed that it has taken steps to get in touch with the victims’ relatives and provide them with the help they need.

The movement of heavy-duty trucks in Aba and Umuahia was banned by the government of former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, from 7 am to 8 pm. But once he left office, the drivers of the heavy-duty vehicles had disregarded the directive.
