Veteran Nollywood actor Afeez Oyetoro says marrying his wife was his best decision, as he opened up about his journey through love, fame, and fatherhood.
Speaking in a candid interview with Chude Jideonwo, the actor popularly known as Saka shared stories from his personal life, including a past heartbreak. According to him, he once loved a woman who insisted he must own two cars before she could marry him — a demand he couldn’t meet at the time, and which eventually ended their relationship.
Now happily married to Saidat Olaide, Afeez said tying the knot at 40 has made him appreciate family even more. “The only difference,” he joked, “is that I now pay school fees with grey hair.” Reflecting on his wife, he didn’t mince words — “Marrying her is the best decision I ever made.”
The comic actor also addressed a long-standing misconception about his career. While many believed he was once a brand ambassador for Etisalat, Afeez clarified that he only featured in a major advert for the brand and was never officially signed as an ambassador. He also admitted that he considered working with Glo at some point but feared breaching existing contracts. “If I had done that, maybe I’d still be in prison today,” he said light-heartedly.
Afeez also recalled how a single MTN campaign turned his career around, taking him from a regular face on stage to a household name across Nigeria.
On a more personal note, he talked about losing his hair. Contrary to popular belief, it wasn’t age-related. During his university days, his head was shaved for a theatre role, and to his surprise, the hair never grew back.
He further revealed that he’s not as lively off-camera as people assume. “Once I leave the stage, I’m very reserved,” he said, putting to rest speculations that he is as bubbly in real life as his characters suggest.
In a previous interview, Afeez opened up about dealing with female attention as a married man. He admitted that in 2016, he faced strong temptation from some admirers but was able to resist. He added that since his marriage, he has remained faithful to his wife, stating that chasing women is simply not in his character.
Now over 15 years into his marriage, Afeez Oyetoro says marrying his wife was his best decision — and it’s a choice that continues to bring him peace and purpose.
