Dutch football giants Ajax have parted ways with their manager, Maurice Steijn, following a disastrous start to the season that has seen them languishing in the relegation zone. This dismal run of results marks the club’s worst performance since 1954.

After just 11 games in charge, Steijn’s tenure with Ajax has come to an abrupt end, as they currently sit in 17th place in the Eredivisie table with a mere five points from seven matches. The final straw was a 4-3 defeat to Utrecht, sealing Steijn’s fate.

In an official statement, the club announced, “Ajax and Maurice Steijn are parting ways with immediate effect. The club management and Steijn have jointly decided that the trainer will resign his duties.”

This sudden managerial change couldn’t come at a more challenging time for Ajax, who have not secured a win since August and have failed to keep a clean sheet since September 3. Their recent match was marred by crowd disorder, with missiles being thrown onto the pitch.

Ajax’s next challenge will be in the UEFA Europa League against Premier League side Brighton, where they hope to turn their fortunes around under new leadership.
