Fast-rising Nigerian singer Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, finds himself at the center of a family controversy involving his father, Mr. Fatai Odunsi, and other relatives.

A day earlier, reports surfaced that Mr. Odunsi, who is battling deteriorating health after a stroke, had called on Nigerians for financial assistance. Allegations also emerged that Asake had abandoned his father, prompting mixed reactions online.

While some claim Mr. Odunsi was absent during Asake’s childhood, others insist he was a present figure, and it was Asake’s mother who failed to support the singer in his formative years.

In a new video, Mr. Odunsi and his family have requested specific support from Asake. They are demanding that the singer purchase a ₦50 million house in Isale Eko, Lagos, which could generate rental income for the ailing father. Additionally, the family is calling for a DNA test for an alleged 11-year-old daughter of Asake, named Zeenat, whose paternity the singer reportedly doubts.

A family representative addressed the singer directly:

“Ololade, Mr. Money, please take care of your father. Even if Nigerians donate ₦10B, just ₦1M from you would make him happier. If you’re unwilling to give directly, buy him a house in Isale Eko for rental income. Regarding Zeenat, her mother has agreed to a DNA test.”

Although Asake has not publicly addressed the allegations, he seemingly alluded to the issue in his music. His lyrics from a recent track suggest frustration over familial pressures:

“You can’t please the world. Whatever you do, do it for God and always remember the day you’ll die and meet your God. My people, can you see? Even my father wants to cajole me. I used to press money for him, and I did it with one mind. No one can quench my fire. God is the one that is taking me ahead in life.”

The song reflects the singer’s stance, hinting that he has supported his father in the past and is focused on his personal growth and divine guidance.

Fans and critics have taken to social media to express their opinions, with some defending Asake for prioritizing his career and others urging him to reconcile with his family and meet their demands.

The ongoing situation has sparked a broader conversation about the responsibilities of successful individuals towards their families and the complexities of strained familial relationships.
