Nigerian comedian and actor Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has come under fire for allegedly sporting a counterfeit Hermes bag. The accusation was made by Italian luxury shopping brand T20Luxury, which took to Instagram to express their disappointment.
The luxury brand called on AY, as a prominent figure in the entertainment industry and a beneficiary of genuine creativity, to refrain from endorsing counterfeit fashion. Emphasizing the importance of authenticity, the brand noted that his actions could impact his reputation as a leader within the Black community.

As a key stakeholder in the entertainment industry and a beneficiary of genuine creativity, it is more important to refrain from supporting the counterfeit fashion industry. Upholding authenticity is important to preserving our reputation as leaders within the Black community.”
The allegation sparked a variety of reactions online. While some agreed with the brand’s stance, others defended the comedian, attributing the situation to potential errors by a stylist or personal shopper.
