The public display of affection between AY and Basketmouth comes after years of discord, reportedly rooted in a dispute over an alleged N30,000 debt. AY previously shared in an interview with Chude Jideonwo that the fallout began when Basketmouth refused to pay him for a gig, subsequently removing AY’s name from other event lineups. Basketmouth denied these claims, emphasizing that he and AY had never been friends.
AY also spoke in an interview with Teju Babyface about his attempts to reconcile with Basketmouth and Julius Agwu, expressing disappointment but accepting that he had done his best.
In a surprising turn of events in October, Basketmouth posted a video on Instagram, offering a sincere apology to AY. He expressed regret for any actions or words that may have caused hurt and called for peace and harmony. He also extended his apology to anyone in the entertainment industry who may have been affected by his behaviour, whether knowingly or unknowingly.
