Nollywood actress Bimpe Akintunde has expressed outrage over a scammer impersonating her to defraud unsuspecting individuals.

Taking to Instagram, the actress shared screenshots of messages from the fraudster, who used her picture and name to trick people into sending money. In her post, Bimpe questioned the state of morality in the country, lamenting how her hard work to build a name and brand was being tainted by someone exploiting her identity.

The actress urged her fans to help report the scammer’s WhatsApp and Opay accounts, while making it clear that she was not associated with the fraudulent activities.

Tell me how this country wants to be great when people are struggling to build a name and brand, and one person uses their pictures and name to defraud people. Please disregard any message asking for money; it’s not me. I would appreciate it if we could find a way to report the accounts.”

Bimpe did not mince words, laying a curse on the scammer:

Tochukwu Samuel O, you will not prosper. You took the picture from my page; it will not end well for you. May your misfortune be evident today.”

The entertainment industry has witnessed several instances of celebrities being impersonated by scammers:

  • Ashabi, Portable’s Baby Mama: In June, Ashabi revealed that a scammer was using her identity and photos to dupe people. She also laid curses on the fraudster, seeking justice.
  • Alesh Sanni: Last year, the actor offered a N500,000 reward for anyone who could expose a lady posing as his friend to scam others of millions.
  • Peter Okoye (PSquare): The singer lamented about fraudsters using his name to exploit fans online, calling attention to how online begging fuels fraud.
  • Obi Cubana: The businessman exposed scammers impersonating him on Twitter, clarifying that he had no presence on the platform.

As cybercrime continues to rise, Nigerian celebrities are urging fans to remain vigilant and verify messages claiming to be from them. Scammers often prey on unsuspecting individuals, leveraging the trust and credibility of public figures.
