In recent developments, Nigerian cross-dresser and internet sensation, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has been granted bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
However, reports indicate that he has yet to fulfill the conditions of his bail, which have not been disclosed. Bobrisky’s arrest, which took place at Pinnock Estate in Lagos State on April 3, 2024, has stirred controversy across social media platforms.
The arrest, confirmed by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, was made on allegations of currency mutilation and abuse of the Naira. This development has sparked discussions online, with many questioning the motives behind Bobrisky’s arrest and the subsequent bail.
Amidst the controversy, activist Aisha Yusufu has spoken out in defense of Bobrisky. Taking to the X-Platform, Yusufu highlighted the presence of cross-dressers across Nigeria, including in Kano, before Bobrisky gained prominence. She sarcastically addressed the prevailing hypocrisy surrounding the issue, suggesting that society should continue to turn a blind eye to the existence of cross-dressers.
Yusufu’s comments come in the wake of the Kano government’s ban on movies promoting cross-dressing, amidst the ongoing campaign against Bobrisky and other cross-dressers. She emphasized that Bobrisky still has much to learn from the original cross-dressers in Kano, who are adept at transforming without the need for surgery.
