Breaking: Hilda Baci Breaks Guinness World Record for ‘longest cooking time’

Nigerian chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, has broken the Guinness World Record for the “longest cooking marathon by an individual.”

The chef, on Monday morning, smashed the 87 hours 45 minutes record set by now-former Guinness World Record holder Lata Tondon.

Hilda launched into the competition on Thursday at exactly 4 pm when she put on her cooker. The event, which occurs at Amore Gardens in Lekki, Lagos, is being live-streamed on YouTube. Several celebrities, including Nigerians, have defied the rain to cheer up the visibly tired chef.

Baci hit the three-day mark on Sunday as several attendees cheered in support.

The Instagram account, @hildabacicookathon, associated with the cook-a-thon, announced that GB Foods is the headline sponsor for the said event. Other sponsors include Arla Foods, BaigeWallet, Filmhouse, Jumbo, Uber, and Woodscope.

Hilda carries on despite having broken the record as she aims to cook for 96 hours, setting a new world record as the first human on earth to spend such an amount of time cooking. The chef has continued to receive a wave of support from government officials, celebrities, clerics, and other well-meaning Nigerians.

Baci is not new to cooking competitions; she participated in the maiden edition of the Jollof Face-off Competition in 2021. The talented chef made Nigeria proud by winning the contest and walking away with a grand prize of $5000.
