In a historic development for African football, Nigeria, Morocco, and South Africa have qualified for the Round of 16 in the 2023 Women’s World Cup. CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, congratulated the teams and praised their performances, highlighting the signal of progress in African football.
Nigeria’s Super Falcons advanced from Group B, finishing second with five points and remarkably not losing a single group-stage game. Morocco, as debutants, secured their spot by finishing second in Group H after defeating Colombia. South Africa, the least-ranked country in Group G, also qualified for the second round for the first time, finishing with four points.
Motsepe’s praise extends to the women’s teams of Nigeria, Morocco, and South Africa, acknowledging their outstanding performances and hard-earned victories. He believes that their successes will significantly contribute to the growth and development of women’s football on the African continent.
