Job Description
Responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment on the jack-up rig. This includes engines, generators, compressors, pumps, hydraulic systems, drilling equipment, and other mechanical systems.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment on the jack-up rig. This includes engines, generators, compressors, pumps, hydraulic systems, drilling equipment, and other mechanical systems.
- Lead and manage the mechanical team, which may include assistant mechanics, technicians, and other personnel. The chief mechanic assigns tasks, provides guidance, conducts performance evaluations, and ensures adherence to safety procedures and maintenance schedules.
- Develops and implements preventive maintenance programs to ensure that all mechanical equipment is regularly inspected, serviced, and maintained in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and industry standards.
- In the event of mechanical failures or breakdowns, the chief mechanic takes a lead role in diagnosing the issues, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing effective repair solutions. They coordinate with the rig’s maintenance and operational teams to minimize downtime.
- Oversee the procurement and inventory management of spare parts, tools, and equipment required for mechanical repairs and maintenance. The chief mechanic ensures that an adequate supply of critical components is maintained on the rig.
- Ensures that all mechanical operations on the jack-up rig comply with safety regulations, standards, and company policies. They work closely with the safety team to identify potential hazards, implement safety measures, and promote a culture of safety among the mechanical team.
- Maintains accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and repairs conducted. They prepare maintenance reports, work orders, and other documentation as required by the rig’s management and regulatory authorities.
- Identify training needs and provide guidance and mentoring to the mechanical team members. The chief mechanic promotes continuous learning and skill development within the team.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 -15 years in onshore or offshore drilling operation.
