The Niger Delta Development Commission has ordered contractors working on its projects to complete high-quality work before they can qualify for payment.

Chief Tony Okocha, the Rivers State Representative on the NDDC Board, disclosed this during an interactive session with stakeholders and contractors at the commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt.

The NDDC Director of Corporate Affairs, Pius Ughakpoteni, made a statement in the state on Thursday.

Okocha emphasised that contractors who failed to achieve the requisite criteria would not be compensated for their work.

While addressing contractors’ concerns about payment delays for finished projects, he suggested that the Commission consider charging contractors an upfront mobilisation charge to allow them to fast-track their jobs.

“I am coming to your sites with my team of competent engineers to assess the work you are doing and if I find the work to be sub-standard, you will have yourself to blame as the current NDDC board will not compromise on standards,” Okocha stated.
