Nigerian Afrobeat sensation, Davido, has broken his silence on the reasons behind the arrest of Abu Salami, a Nigerian photographer who accused him of owing a debt.
Earlier reported by Kemi Filani, Davido had ordered the arrest of Abu Salami on charges of signature forgery, cyberstalking, and cyberbullying, resulting in photos circulating on social media showing Salami in police custody.
The news sparked controversy among netizens, with many criticizing Davido, alleging that he was using his influence to intimidate others.
In a leaked chat between Davido and Larry Gaga discussing the debt issue, the singer revealed his perspective, expressing feeling publicly embarrassed by Salami’s actions. Davido claimed that Salami’s behavior had affected his ability to enjoy the birth of his twins.
According to the leaked chat, Davido alleged that Salami not only insulted his father but also verbally attacked his sister, a person his father highly respects, and even made derogatory remarks about his late mother. Davido stated that his father advised him against paying any money and suggested taking the case to court for resolution.
This ongoing dispute stemmed from Salami’s public accusations last month, claiming that Davido failed to honor a contract despite receiving N218 million to support a football project for children. Salami further accused Davido of sending thugs to intimidate him when asked for a refund.
Adding fuel to the fire, Salami compared Davido unfavourably with his rival, Burna Boy, asserting that Burna Boy’s generosity far outweighs Davido’s financial gestures. Salami recounted an incident where he witnessed Burna Boy sending N15 million to aid someone in need, contrasting it with Davido’s alleged actions.
