Nollywood actor Deyemi Okanlawon had a memorable moment when he spotted his all-time favorite actor, Denzel Washington, at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
The actor shared a video from the premiere of the screenplay adaptation of August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson, where he expressed his disbelief at being in the same space as the Hollywood legend.

This year has been a winning streak for Deyemi. Just days before his encounter with Denzel, he shared a tour of his Hollywood Hills home in Los Angeles, gearing up for his Hollywood debut. Deyemi reflected on his journey, emphasizing how significant this moment is for him and his family, considering the challenges he has faced.
Deyemi has indeed come a long way in his career. Last year, he paid tribute to veteran actor Kunle Bantefa, recounting how he stepped into the film industry at just 8 or 9 years old. His first appearance on set was in a family commercial featuring veteran actress Sola Sobowale as his mother and his brother, Detola Okanlawon, as his sibling.
In March 2023, Deyemi was honored with a Trailblazer Award at the 16th edition of the Silverbird Awards. He expressed his gratitude to Silverbird TV and the public, noting that the award had been a long time coming.
Earlier in February 2022, Okanlawon fulfilled a significant career aspiration by being appointed as the Director of Planning/Strategy for the Actors Guild of Nigeria, allowing him to make a positive impact in the industry.
