Nigerian entertainer and activist DJ Switch has ignited fierce reactions following her blunt response to the death of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a post shared on her Instagram story, DJ Switch didn’t hold back, describing his death as “the sweet reality of inevitability.” Signing off with “RIP MF” and “One down,” her words stirred mixed emotions from Nigerians online.
After facing backlash for her post, she released a video on Instagram where she questioned the legacy of the late president. “Please tell me what is Buhari’s achievement apart from destroying Nigeria,” she said. “When you are a bad leader, people will drink to your demise. But when you lead with fairness, people will mourn you when you die.”
Her boldness drew both praise and criticism. While some hailed her for speaking the minds of many, others found her tone too harsh.
Below are some online Reactions:
-
@xx3x.iix: “Like say you sef no go die. Mumu.”
-
@beckyluv03: “I support DJ Switch on this one. She is one of our heroes during End SARS.”
-
@kins4real: “This is wickedness. It’s absolutely uncalled for. May his soul rest in peace.”
-
@ririsplace: “Very mean of you. Big shame on you, DJ. It could be your dad.”
-
@fatshedyyy: “I agree with DJ Switch on this one. One down, one more to go. Tinubu is next.”
This isn’t the first time DJ Switch has publicly criticized the Nigerian leadership. Recently, she alleged that Pastor Adeboye’s church, RCCG, operates as a political arm of the APC. She also criticized the cleric for his silence during the elections and his later public support for President Tinubu.
Switch didn’t stop there. She recounted confronting literary icon Wole Soyinka over what she called his “myopic thinking” during a discussion on African writers.
Meanwhile, actor and former Big Brother Naija housemate Pere Egbi offered a contrasting perspective. In a tweet, he called it “a sad day for Nigeria and Nigerians” and prayed for strength for the late president’s family. He acknowledged that while Buhari wasn’t perfect, he gave his best to the country.
Pere also condemned those rejoicing over the former president’s death, saying, “When death comes, you are wiped clean off the earth… celebrating someone’s death gains you nothing.”
