Popular On-Air Personality (OAP) Do2dtun recently took to social media to address the backlash Nigerian singer Rema has received for his smoking habits.
In his post, Do2dtun called out the hypocrisy and selective outrage of Nigerians criticizing Rema.
Do2dtun wrote:
Rema give me what you are smoking o! Some of u are helping him count the no of nicotine he is consuming but one puff is reading 4.7 billion yet u are there inhaling Carbon monoxide (CO) every day in Nigeria & you think u are healthier than him abi! Naija & selective rage.”*
He emphasized that many Nigerians are exposed to harmful pollutants daily, making them no healthier than smokers. He criticized the judgmental attitudes of those who haven’t had a health check-up in months but feel entitled to comment on others’ health choices.
If you haven’t done a check up in the last 6 months and you are sure you are healthier, don’t speak about health. Just cos your vices are different and no one sees it doesn’t make you healthier.”*
Do2dtun also highlighted the pervasive presence of smoke and pollution in Nigeria, stating that everyone is at risk regardless of whether they smoke or not. He urged people to let others live their lives as long as they are within legal boundaries.
Smokers are liable to die young, inhalers of carbon monoxide are liable to die young too. All our exhaust don tear finish, shisha everywhere; smoke, generator everywhere. You are dying slowly but you don’t even know it. I don’t smoke. I have never but let people do what they want as long as it is legal. Judges, unsolicited counselors and life coach too much.”*
In his caption, Do2dtun further criticized the hypocrisy of some Nigerians and reminded them of Rema’s success, including his upcoming performance at the Ambani wedding in India, where he is set to earn over four billion Naira.
The post followed mixed reactions to Rema’s recent return to social media, where he shared pictures of himself smoking. Concerned netizens have questioned when smoking became a habit for the young singer.
